Helicopter Wing Suit Skydive

A day in the life at Mauna Loa Helicopters is often filled with operating procedures, off airport maneuvers, and plenty of gorgeous Hawaiian scenery. However, we were recently asked to be a part of an epic adventure with Nic Sacco, also known as Savage Sac. Nic is a professional athlete, race car instructor, and also a fellow pilot. But this time, Nic took to the skies a little differently than most pilots do. A helicopter wing suit skydive adventure.

3,2,1… Let’s GO!! ❤️ This morning’s Heli Wingsuit Skydive was one of the most memorable jumps I have ever done. 1st skydive out a R66. 1st jump over the Big Island, Hawaii. Landed on THE most beautiful beach I have ever flown over. Flew around Kaho’olawe today (because you are not allowed to fly over this island.) This is the smallest of the 8 main volcanic islands of #Hawaii – During WWII Kaho’olawe was used as a bombing range by U.S. Armed Forces and hence has the nickname “The Target Isle”

Flying over an active volcano is something really special. #MaunaLoa is the largest volcano on Earth (above the sea). From its base (16,400ft submarine height) to its peak (13,680ft subaerial height) Mauna Loa rises 30,085ft = higher than Mount Everest (29,029ft) – Truly Spectacular!!
