Kona Student of the Month: James Hardy

andyNews, Student of the Month

July 2019 Student of the Month
Meet James Hardy, age 27, from Kenya.

James Hardy was voted July Student of the month for Kona base. James is 27 years old from Kenya when asked why did you choose MLH James said “Ben and Natalie were great in giving all the information about the course and guiding me through getting my F1 visa. The school was best suited to my goals and has a great name from other pilots who have learned to fly here. Hawaii’s weather also provides a great training environment. “

James is currently in his Commercial, he knew he wanted to be a helicopter pilot when he was a child.  So far he has only piloted the R22 but the A-Star is his favorite out of the helicopters he has been a passenger on.

As a student James shared the obstacles he has had to overcome; “Firstly was making the decision to go for it, paying for it and taking the time away from home. Studying and not giving up  when times get tough also plays a big part.” Advise James would give to future students is: “ 1. You’re never going to stop learning, whether it is about flying or about yourself as a pilot 2. It’s going to be tough, but also great fun 3. A good friend said, “if you’re not having fun, you’re not flying”

So far since attending MLH James said his favorite experience has been “A cross country trip from Kona to Honolulu. The island hoping is amazing, the scenery was amazing. But Flying every day here is amazing.” His favorite things about flying in Hawaii at MLH are “The people, the management, the instructors and the students are like one big family.”

James aims to fly back in Kenya, his goals are to explore Africa by helicopter and show the guest the beauty it beholds in the environment, Wildlife, People, and Culture.

Keep up the great work James, you are doing an outstanding job!! Looking forward to hearing more success from you.
