Emergency Medical Services, Halo Flight
Corpus Christi, Texas
Who are you flying for currently?
I am a Emergency Medical Services at Halo Flight in Corpus Christi, Texas
What ratings do you hold?
CFII.
Where are you flying and for what company?
I’m working as an EMS pilot with Halo Flight Inc out of Corpus Christi Texas. I have also worked as an Army Instructor Pilot at Fort Rucker and as an EMS, SAR, Fire, and Logistics pilot for Evergreen Helicopters in Hawaii, Alaska and the Southern Philippines Islands.
What kind of helicopter(s) do you fly?
Bell 214ST, 412EP, 212, 407, 206, CH-54B, R-22, R-44
What do you find unique, challenging, or fulfilling about your job?

Flying EMS is pretty dynamic. There are a lot of scene flights to car accidents where you need to land in the middle of all the chaos. You see a lot of blood, guts and gross feet. I also fly for the children’s hospital. There is some job satisfaction when you transport sick kids to a higher level of care…. precious cargo.

Was there anything in particular that you learned at MLH that made you especially ready for a situation you have encountered since attending?
I think that MLH does a great job in preparing its students for the “Real World”. The high altitude flying on the BI is really good and you can really learn to fly high hot and heavy. Power management is a very important thing to learn early and MLH teaches it well.
What did you like best about MLH?
The variety of training environments.
Do you have any other comments or suggestions for those just beginning in the industry?
Do not get discouraged, keep moving forward and keep learning from your experiences up there, good and bad. Study hard, stay out of the BS, have fun and know your job.
