Utility/Tours Pilot, TEMSCO Helicopters
Alaska
Who are you flying for currently?
I am a Utility/Tours Pilot at TEMSCO Helicopters in Alaska
Where are you flying and for what company?
June 2009 – Sept. 2009 as a student, Nov. 2009 – Sept. 2011 as a CFI.
What ratings do you hold?
CFI, IFR, CFII.
What type of work are you doing now?
Currently a tour pilot for TEMSCO in Juneau, AK.
What do you find unique, challenging, or fulfilling about your job?

I never thought I’d get to see all of Hawaii let alone live there too. The career change was very challenging but I wake up every day thankful for this lifestyle.

Was there anything in particular that you learned at MLH that made you especially ready for a situation you have encountered since attending?
The instruction is definitely top notch and it showed during my turbine transition. I felt like graduates of MLH accelerated through my company’s training faster than others, some of whom had several hundred more hours in their logbooks.
What did you like best about MLH?
The family atmosphere. I built lasting relationships with both students and colleagues. We all worked hard and played hard while having the time of our lives.
What other positions have you held?
Realize that everyone you meet in this industry is potentially your future chief pilot, or at the very least someone who can help you get into a flying seat. It’s an incredibly small industry and having people know you is crucial to finding work. I wouldn’t be in Alaska if not for the connections, and friends, I made at Mauna Loa.
