Grant Phillips

Tour Pilot, Sunshine Helicopters
Hawaii
Who are you flying for currently?
I am a Tour Pilot at Sunshine Helicopters in Hawaii
Where are you flying and for what company?
From December 2006 to May 2008.
What ratings do you hold?
I completed the Professional Program CFI/CFII.
What do you find unique, challenging, or fulfilling about your job?

I get to fly people around some of the most beautiful places on earth and share that experience. Right now I’m happy to have a great job flying new aircraft. I enjoy becoming familiar with new airframes and systems. I’ve wanted to help others with flying since I was a student and I hope I can build enough experience to make that possible.

Was there anything in particular that you learned at MLH that made you especially ready for a situation you have encountered since attending?
MLH definitely prepared me to be a safe and confident pilot in high wind, mountainous conditions.
What did you like best about MLH?
What I liked best about MLH was the bond that was created with the one on one learning process. I’ll always remember flying from Maui to Kona with my instructor about an hour before sunset. There were scattered popcorn like clouds over the channel. We flew between them like they were glowing canyons of pink and orange. This experience and others since then are special and what I think dreams are made of.
Do you have any other comments or suggestions for those just beginning in the industry?
Get used to studying! Haha, it NEVER ends, but enjoy the breaks in between. Otherwise, have fun, keep it safe, and have fun!
