Tell us about your career path.

I just started a new job with PJ Helicopters, in the past I worked for Pathfinder Aviation in AK, and Alex Air in Maui.

What do you find unique, challenging, or fulfilling about your job?

I fly a variety of helicopters, on different utility missions, in different geographical areas. Its always changing. That and I fly more with my head out of the aircraft than in. My career is nothing like I thought it would be, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Was there anything in particular that you learned at MLH that made you especially ready for a situation you have encountered since attending?

Flying in industry is very different, and you really have no idea what its like when you come out of school and this can be intimidating. I feel that MLH gave me a solid skill set and knowledge base that allowed me to have confidence as I stepped out into the job market.

What did you like best about MLH?

There is a lot of encouragement by everyone (cfi’s, students, office manager, owner) to succeed. High standard of learning.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions for those just beginning in the industry?

The helicopter world is very small. A good attitude will take you far, a poor one can ruin your reputation which is all you have. Everyone can wiggle the sticks around, professionalism is what separates the good pilots from the rest. At 1000 hrs. you are at the top in the instructor/school environment. When you get your first job you are now at the bottom of the barrel in the helicopter industry. Again I stress you must have a humble attitude and willingness to take direction. If you do doors will open for you and if not they will be shut in your face.
