Cheyanne Skye Buskirk was selected as the Kona base February student of the month. Born and raised in Danielsville, Pennsylvania Cheyanne is 22 years old currently working on her IFR and CFII certificates. When Cheyanne was “around 14 years old when my mom and I went for a helicopter ride” she knew helicopters would be her direction in life, Cheyanne hopes to become an EMS or search and rescue pilot. When asked why did you pick MLH? Her reply was simple “Because their expectations and standards are held higher than the FAA’s. They want you to become the best pilot you can be.” Cheyanne shared her greatest obstacles to over come have been “moving 5,000 miles away from my fiancĂ© and cat.”
Cheyanne was asked’ What advice would you give to people just starting out in their training?’ she said “Hmmmm? Be ready to study… ALOT. And I know its common for people to want to finish fast. But sometimes trying to rush and get through the program can hinder your progress and actually slow you down. So try not to focus so much on your timeline, but more on the actual training. Like my instructor says, “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.” She then shared her favorite experience while flying at MLH, “My favorite experience would have to be my training in Class B in Honolulu. Having the benefit of training in stronger winds and of course the scenery.”
Congratulations to Cheyanne Buskirk, keep up the good work. Looking forward to your graduation day.
