Flight Training in Hawaii

Image

Thank you for your interest in Mauna Loa Helicopters and Hawaii Pacific Aviation. We conduct helicopter pilot training and fixed wing flight training in the United States on the Big Island of Hawaii and Oahu, as well as helicopter tours on the island of Kauai. Hawaii offers a great infrastructure for flight training; convenient flight practice areas, less congested airspace, more favorable weather conditions and best of all, one of the most dynamic training environments on the planet.

Hawaii’s flight training environment includes high mountains, ridge lines and valleys, offshore flying, constantly changing weather conditions and the opportunity to fly in busy class B airspace in Honolulu. Your flight training will present you with opportunities to practice bush, rugged terrain, mountain, and ridge line landings.

The Island Experience

Hawaii is an ideal place to get your helicopter or fixed wing certification and will no doubt be an unforgettable experience. The travel brochures have it right: Hawaii has excellent weather year ‘round, which means you can fly just about any time you like. There’s no extreme heat, high humidity, fog, sleet or snow to contend with. The average daily temperatures here range between 75 and 85 degrees. Except for instrument flying, we generally fly our helicopters with the doors off.

We are one of the few schools in the United States that offers you Instrument, Instrument Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot Courses as well as Night Vision Goggle and External Load training courses. Mauna Loa has all the amenities of the largest helicopter pilot training schools and yet maintains the personal level of instruction that makes smaller schools so special.

One of the huge benefits of training at Mauna Loa is our reputation in the industry. The school has established a good reputation among operators and our instructor graduates have a leg up on the competition. MLH alumni are employed around the United States and all over the world. Nearly every helicopter company in Hawaii employs MLH alumni and two companies boast over 50% of their staff is MLH alumni.
