Name?
Oliver Kirsch
Age?
22
Current ratings?
Private
Where are you from?
Switzerland, not to be confused with Sweden
What point in your life did you know you wanted to fly helicopters?
When I got rescued by one and I realized some time later that I don’t want to work in a office for my whole life.
What is your favorite to fly?
Long-lining is awesome, flying at high altitudes is fun and flying through rainbows is breathtaking.
What obstacles have you had to overcome to get where you are today?
When I think back to my final decision for an airborne future 12 months ago and now, there are really no obstacles to talk about. Due to the absolute professional and flawless work here at MLH, from answering silly questions in the beginning, the Visa application, student housing and all the things I already forgot, there is nothing I could call a obstacle.
Where do you hope your helicopter training will take you?
I’m open to everything. Since I know the industry just as a student, I try not to have too big prospects which will be probably disappointing in the end.
What advice would you give to people just starting out in their helicopter training?
Concentrate on the here and know. Don’t look to much into the future, it just takes a lot of time and time is changing without asking.
What has been your favorite experience while flying with MLH?
That’s a lot, but flying wise, there are definitely some awesome cross country flights between all the Hawaiian Islands, valley flights and checking out Waikiki from the air.
How did you pick MLH for your helicopter training?
Helicopters, school, F1, USA — thats all a big search engine needs to give you to answer on all your questions and where you’re going to learn how to fly. No really, the effort I invested in research was probably naive, but since I chose the right way to go, I don’t regret anything.
What’s your favorite thing about flying in Hawaii/at MLH?
MLH itself, with its familiar, and absolute “you” oriented staff, the students from all over the world, the aloha flair and that not everything is about helicopters. Hawaii… probably needs no comment.
