February 2020 Student of the Month
Meet Pavol Polasek, age 22, from Canada.
Pavol Polasek from Calgary Canada was awarded the February 2020 student of the month award for Kona. Pavel is a 22-year-old who knew he wanted to fly helicopters since he was in the 10th grade. Pavel shared obstacles he is has had to overcome to where he is today; “I wanted to expand my knowledge to get an insight on how things, specifically aircraft, work and studied and earned my BSc in Mechanical Engineering after four years before starting my helicopter training. Furthermore, I had to move 5000 miles away from home to a foreign country to follow my passion, despite persuasion from my family against doing so.” Advice he wants to share for those just starting out “Take training seriously, but not too seriously and have fun. There are good days and bad days, just take it one step at a time. GOALS! Pavel shared his goals are ” I hope my training will allow me to see the world from a different perspective, in a new and unfamiliar environment and challenge me in a non-technical way that engineering couldn’t. Ultimately, with a career having a noticeable and valuable impact such as flying for EMS.”
Pavel talks about his favorite experiences with flying with MLH, “The day I finished my PPL add on with the support of a tightly knit community and the supportive staff who believe in your abilities.” This leads to us asking, how did you pick Mauna Loa Helicopters out of all the other flight schools? “After some research and discovering that it was the best possible school to jump-start my aviation career, it was a no brainer. High standards of training and in a whole variety of conditions.”
What’s your favorite thing about flying in Hawaii/ at MLH?”The sense of friendship and community that the staff and students offer in combination with the near-perfect daily tropical weather”
