CFI Charlie Martens and Rigel Anestos attended the first in-person Kealakehe Intermediate Career Day in two years! They talked to 6th, 7th and 8th graders about Mauna Loa Helicopters and what we do here. What their typical day as a flight instructor and why they decided to go into this career path. A lot of students and faculty did not realize we were here on the island.
Many questions that were asked were “What is it like when flying?” Charlie’s answer “It’s something that cannot be described. It’s just something you need to do yourself!” They had made female students approach the booth and Rigel informed them that the industry is very male dominated and “We NEED more Female pilots!” There are lots of scholarships and grants specifically for Female students who want to learn to fly.
We hope to fly with some of these kids in the coming years!
