On March 13th, Mauna Loa Helicopters was invited to Honokaa Elementary to participate in their Career Day. Jack Spellman spoke with over 60 students about becoming a helicopter pilot, and his path to get to where he is now.
In the first part of the morning, Jack was able to meet with the Kindegradent to 1st grade, then he had three periods of smaller groups of 2nd-6th graders who selected helicopter pilot as a career choice.
Jack answered questions the students had ranging from “how much do you make”, “is it scary to fly?” to “when was the helicopter invented”. Once Jack made his way around the room answering questions he did a small chair flying demo and explained to the students about the basics of a helicopter and how to fly.
Mauna Loa Helicopters loves participated in career days, its a great way for young minds to learn more about the industry and understand they can be anything they want. Even a pilot, without having to leave Hawaii.
Thank you Honokaa Elementary for having us. We are so fortunate to have been apart of this event for your students. Hope to be invited again.
